THE FRUIT

Lots of fruits contain a substance called pectin which protects our intestinal mucosa. As well as fructose, sugars, very useful for all body functions and organs, especially for those people who practice sports or maintain high physical activity in there daily work.

FRUIT IS VERY RICH IN VITAMINS:
• Vitamin A, abundant in peaches and apricots.
• Vitamin B, en hazelnuts, almonds and walnuts.
• Vitamin C, above all in citrus fruits; lemons and oranges, but also abundant in strawberries, apples and grapes.

PRINCIPAL PROPERTIES OF SOME FRUITS:
• Lemon purifies and helps to absorb calcium
• Orange prevents colds (due to its vitamin C, although not totally demonstrated)
• Grapefruit helps liver recuperation (recommended for those who take lots of medicine and alcoholics)
• Strawberries and cherries, recommendable for those who suffer from rheumatism.
• Dates and bananas maintain a lot of calories and are not advisable for diabetics.
• Apples have astringent qualities.
• Fruits with high water contents have diuretic qualities; watermelon, pears or grapes. You should not consume these before going to sleep.

Special mention has to be made of carrot juice; it regenerates skin cells, stimulates the function of the intestines and carries many minerals, vitamins and carotene, all substances that rejuvenate our body tissues.

Generally fruit contains between 30 and 60 calories per 100 gram, in consequents, they are recommendable for any type of weight loss diet.

Those who want to loss weight should abstain of consuming hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, sweet chestnuts, dates or bananas.
